Priberam joins the Quaero consortium

SME specialized in the automatic processing of natural language Portuguese and in Spanish, joins the Quaero consortium.  The company  will work in particular on research technologies in natural language known as “question and answer”, whose objective is to provide the user not only a set of documents which correspond to his request but also directly the answer to his question.  The Quaero consortium started to work on these technologies for French and English with the SME Synapse Development.  The arrival of Priberam enables the extension of this work to two new languages.  Reciprocally, the Quaero program brings to Priberam a framework favourable to the development and the integration of its technologies.
Priberam, like Synapse Development, have internationally recognized scientific competences.  The two companies obtain each year the best results during the reference test campaigns led within the framework of the forum on the evaluation of multilingual technologies CLEF.
The work expected by Priberam within the framework of Quaero represents an extension of the initial program supported by OSEO.  A statute of associated partner had been foreseen at the establishment of the program in order to allow such extensions.  Priberam is the first associated partner within Quaero.  With this arrival, the Quaero program moves into a new phase, that of the European and international expansion around its initial objectives and principles, namely the development of a new generation of tools for automatic processing of multimedia and multilingual contents and the organization of work around reinforced and shared research infrastructure.
