Quaero at MediaEval 2011

The MediaEval workshop was held in Pisa, Italy, September on 1st and 2nd, 2011.

During this campaign, 6 tasks were evaluated:

  • Genre Tagging Task (10 participants)
  • Rich Speech Retrieval Task (5 participants)
  • Spoken Web Search (5 participants)
  • Affect Task: Violence Detection Task (6 participants)
  • Social Event Detection (7 participants)
  • Placing Task (6 participants)

TMediaEval workshop was held in Pisa, Italy, on September 1st and 2nd, 2011.

The results of each task were presented in two steps:

  1. an outline of the results and synthesis of the various approaches
  2. a description by the participants of their systems and the methods used,

a specific attention was given to the discussion which followed. 

The partners of the Quaero project participated in several aspects:

  •     participation in the organization of the tasks “Violence Detection” (Technicolor & Irisa) and “Genre Tagging” (Irit)         
  •     submissions to these two tasks: KIT (“Genre Tagging”), UJF-LIG, Irisat & Technicolor (“Violence Detection”)   
  •     Participation also of INRIA/IRISA in the task “Spoken Web Search”.

The automatic transcriptions used within the framework of this evaluation were provided by the LIMSI-CNRS and Vocapia Research.   

39 submissions coming from various countries of Europe, of America, of Asia and Oceania were received in 2011 versus 13 in 2010!
A great success!
A discussion on the task proposals for the next edition closed the workshop.
